"Never Trust a Big Butt and a Smile"
By Joe Buckner

So I saw a funny quote on Facebook about marriage. It said “Kim Kardashian got paid a million dollars to get married on TV. She stayed married for 72 days... and they say gays are ruining the sanctity of marriage."

Funny stuff for sure. I decided to do a little research on Kim K and the fascination with her (by research I mean I may have "accidentally" stumbled upon her now famous video with Ray J).

Last year Miss New Booty herself (or the "Tush" as we like to call her) earned a whopping $6,000,000 dollars!!! This number easily puts her at the top of the list of those who are famous for ... well... being famous.

This new breed of celebrity with no real marketable talent or skills. Paris Hilton may have been the first but her old running mate may have seriously taken this whole game to another level.

Maybe I'm getting old but I don't get it. Outside of her obvious physical beauty I can't list one thing that this young lady contributes to society. She can't sing, dance, paint, wax a floor, NOTHING!!! Yet she out earns most doctors in our country. This is absolutely crazy to me.

The sad part of this all is that I am not even mad at Kim K. I applaud her. She has figured out a way to captivate us so that we pay attention to her every move. From the strategically placed products in her show to her fake million dollar wedding (don’t shed a tear for Kris Humphries either. He was in on it. From nobody to somebody just from dating Kim K), no matter what she does, we tune in.

Where does it stop? At some point we have to take a stand and stop watching these people on TV (Jersey Shore. Really?) Once this happens there will be no advertising dollars and no more shows!! Simple but not easy, especially since most of these kids are complete wrecks.

I look forward to a day when our great country gets back to the point where you actually have to be great at something to be famous. Think of the icons of the past. Joe DiMaggio, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, Muhammad Ali, Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley. All of these folks had talent. The kind of talent that changes the world forever. These are the individuals who deserve to be celebrated. Not people who allow us to peek into their dysfunctional lives for 30 minutes a week.

Not sure we will ever get back to that because at one point in this world you had to be special to be famous. Now, if you're famous, you're special. SMH
